What is ShopUnion? How do I use it?

ShopUnion is an app that helps you find unionized Starbucks near you. After opening the app and loading the map, enter your zip code or address to zoom to your location, click on a unionized Starbucks location near you, get directions with your preferred app, and check the source information on the NLRB website.

Are you involved with Starbucks Workers United, other Unions, or the NLRB?

No. This app and the developers are not involved with any unions, but we support them and all workers. ShopUnion is not affiliated with the NLRB or any government entity.

How much does it cost?

The ShopUnion app is free with an ad banner at the bottom. We are planning to provide a paid option that removes the ad banner. Other than that, you can still support the app by letting other people know about it and supporting union shops in general. You can also support the developers with a monetary gift via this website and Donorbox, though please note that ShopUnion is not a non-profit and gifts are not tax deductible. 

My Starbucks is missing from the app!

There are three possible reasons for this. (1) Your Starbucks still needs to unionize! Get in touch, talk to the workers, and let them know you support them. (2) Our data is missing some locations. Feel free to submit a location and make corrections. (3) They've had a successful union vote which you may have heard about, but their case hasn't been approved and closed by the NLRB. A union vote will and often does succeed at a Starbucks location, but Starbucks Corporation will often appeal, resist, and attempt to reverse the vote even when they have little hope of winning or convincing the NLRB. This is to slow down the process, cost the union resources, and deter others from following the same process. For this reason, we are not including open NLRB cases. We only include Starbucks locations with a successful union vote that is shown as a closed case on the NLRB website. That said, we support workers at all Starbucks locations. A map of Starbucks locations including open cases with the NLRB can be viewed at the Starbucks Workers United website.

A Starbucks listing in the app has closed!

This, unfortunately, is also common since Starbucks will retaliate against locations that have unionized. Please submit the location to us and let us know that the listed location is no longer in operation.

What's next for ShopUnion?

We intended to add additional features to the app including user lists of favorite Starbucks, additional categories, and filters. We'd like to soon expand the ability of ShopUnion to display additional categories of union shops for consumers to support. Starbucks was selected as a business to start the app off since union representation is growing rapidly among workers there and it is a popular business among general consumers. We'd also like to provide support for the app on Apple and web browsers.
